Your Healthcare rights

We are dedicated to providing you with the best-quality healthcare and ensuring your rights are respected at all times. We follow the principles of the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights that applies across the Australian health system.

You can see more about the charter at http://patientcharter.health.vic.gov.au/

Access

You have a right to access appropriate healthcare. There are many systems in place in Victoria to ensure that you can access the health care you need. This may involve being referred to different services at times.

safety

Beaumaris Medical Centre strives to provide high quality primary care services to its patients, through our general practitioners, nurses, allied health providers, and our medical receptionists. Please advise any of our staff if you have a concern about safety, or think an error has been made. Your right to safe, high quality care relies on open, clear communication. This means giving us the information we need to provide the correct service and telling you what we need to know to make the right decisions about your care.

respect

We wish for all our patients and staff to be treated with respect, dignity and consideration at all times. We want to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable and as far as possible, provide our services in surroundings that allow personal privacy. We will respect your religious and cultural beliefs and maintain your right to be treated without discrimination based on your age, race, gender, sexual orientation, carer status, disability or marital status.

communication

We pride ourselves on clear, open and honest communication. You have a right to be informed about services, treatments, options and costs clearly and openly. You should receive timely and appropriate communication about your healthcare in a way you can understand.

Participation

We want you to be active in all aspects of your health care. You have a right to be included in all decisions and choices about your health care. You have a right to refuse any health care as long as you have been adequately informed of all the relevant information to make this decision. You can assist us by participating as much as possible in your care; one way you can do this is by providing complete and up to date information about your medical conditions, medications, etc.
